TURBONEGRO Vocalist HANK VON HELL Announces North American Summer Tour!

HANK VON HELL 2019 tour poster

HANK VON HELL 2019 tour poster

Legendary rock frontman and longtime Turbonegro vocalist Hank Von Hell has announced his return to North America for this summer! In addition to Von Hell, the Hank Von Hell band features Jones Kelly II (lead guitar), Major Sam (rhythm guitar), Jean Genus (bass) and Dead Said Fred (drums).

Presented by MetalSucks and Tone Deaf Touring, the Hank Von Hell 2019 North American tour will rock with hellacious force, reaffirming the singer’s standing as the King of “death punk” while introducing first time fans to one of hard rock’s most voracious vocalists and biggest bad boys.

The tour will launch on August 6th in Atlanta, GA and runs through September 12th in Greenville, SC. Find a complete list of dates below. Support on the first half of the tour will come from Spiders, the second half will see support from Overdose.

Hank Von Hell comments on the tour:
“It’s been a long, long time since I’ve toured North America. But now, the wait is finally over. I’m beyond excited to once again hit the stage in front of some of the best audiences in the world, and I can guarantee that the fans wont be disappointed. This tour is maxed out to the fullest, with a setlist that’ll make your heads fuckin’ pop. I’ll bring the thunder, you’ll bring the riot. Let’s party – Hank is BACK.”

Hank Von Hell who for 17 years fronted Turbonegro, the self-styled “biggest underground rock ‘n’ roll band in the world”, is known for his raucous ringleading, over-the-top personality and gaudy stage make-up that turns every concert into a party. Touring in support of his new LP, Egomania, Von Hell is set to prove, once again, that his formidable reputation proceeds him for a reason.

His highly successful comeback album Egomania was released last year, with the title track “Bum to Bum” featuring non other than Steve-O from Jackass fame in the video, resurrecting Hank from the dead and back to rock. Watch the video HERE.

The follow-up album to “Egomania” is due to be released in a very near future throughSony Music Entertainment.

THE BLACK MOODS Announce Tour Dates in Support of Their Second Top 40 Single

THE BLACK MOODS summer tour 2019

THE BLACK MOODS summer tour 2019

Tempe, Arizona’s The Black Moods have announced tour dates this summer with Them Evils. The tour will kick off on July 14th in Salt Lake City, UT at Kilby Court. The band continues to support their second top 40 single, “Bad News.”

Born in the Arizona desert and reared on stages across North America, the band delivers a modern update of a timeless sound, breathing fresh life into a familiar mix of electric guitars, anthemic hooks, and percussive stomp. The Black Moods’ three members — frontman/guitarist Josh Kennedy, drummer Daniel “Chico” Diaz and bassist Jordan Hoffman — aren’t looking to reinvent the wheel. Instead, they’re piling into a vehicle that’s existed for decades, souping up the engine to suit their contemporary needs, and steering those wheels toward their own rock & roll horizon.

The Black Moods began building their audience the old-school way: by hitting the road. They toured heavily, promoting albums like their 2012 self-titled debut and 2016’s Medicine with gigs across the country. By the time Bella Donna hit the radio airwaves during the summer of 2018, The Black Moods’ fanbase had grown exponentially. The song became a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, paving the way for the band’s biggest shows to date.

Modern-day torchbearers of ageless rock & roll, The Black Moods aren’t shy about nodding to their influences. Bella Donna was partially inspired by the Doors’ slinky strut, while the climatic chorus of “Bad News” points to alt-rock mainstays like the Foo Fighters. With one boot planted in the same ground as their influences and the other pointed toward unexplored territory, The Black Moods blaze their own path while still paying tribute to those who came before them.

Both Bella Donna and “Bad News” were recorded with Grammy Award-nominated producer Johnny Karkazis, who flew to Phoenix and set up a makeshift studio in the band’s own rehearsal space. There, in the same practice facility once shared by hometown heroes like the Refreshments, the band funneled the spirit and swagger of their live show into their most dynamic recordings to date. That live show — which The Black Moods sharpened with cross-country tours alongside the Doors’ Robbie Krieger, Shinedown, Jane’s Addiction, Eve 6, Cracker, and numerous other headliners — has always been one of the band’s strongest selling points. Now, thanks to singles like Bella Donna (which also lends its name to the first wine in The Black Moods’ wine series), The Black Moods’ fury and fire onstage is matched by their electricity on record.

Legendary Rock Band The Who Add Third Hollywood Bowl Show

Legendary rock band The Who have added a third Hollywood Bowl date to the fall leg of their 2019 North American Moving On! Tour. Due to intense demand, the new show will take place on October 24, following the two previous Hollywood Bowl dates on October 11 and October 13. It’s the first time in the band’s celebrated history that they’ve played three dates at the historic venue during one touring cycle. The Bowl dates will also mark their first appearance at the famed amphitheatre since a two-show run performed in April and May of 2006. Tickets for the Hollywood Bowl go on sale Friday, May 17th at 12pm local time at LiveNation.com.

The Who also announced an exciting lineup of special guests opening up for the band on selected dates throughout the autumn leg of the trek: Oasis front man Liam Gallagher, iconic Boston rocker Peter Wolf, and Canadian indie/blues band Reignwolf (see dates below.)

Gallagher will open the 3rd Hollywood Bowl show on October 24. The outspoken singer known for his electrifying stage presence and unblinking perspective released his debut solo album As You Were in 2017 to worldwide acclaim. The album went platinum in the UK and top 40 in the U.S., with the singer currently working on his follow-up album and readying a much-anticipated documentary on his return to music, Liam Gallagher; As It Was, which traces his road back to the rock spotlight.

The Who just wrapped up the first week of shows on the kick-off leg of Moving On!, performing to a sold-out crowd in New York City’s rock cathedral Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

The Who have raised the bar once again on their incredible legacy with Moving On! Never ones for nostalgia, singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend pair with acclaimed local symphony orchestras each night to give Who fans a once-in-a-lifetime live experience.

The band, which includes guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey, serves up The Who’s many classics with full and minimal symphony backing, as well as intimate acoustic numbers and a showstopping Pete/Roger duo performance.

The Who will also be releasing their first album of new songs in thirteen years later this year.

Every pair of tickets purchased online includes a redeemable code for a CD copy of The Who’s forthcoming album when it’s released. This offer is available to US and Canada customers only and not valid for tickets purchased via resale. In addition, $1 from each ticket sold for the Moving On! Tour will benefit Teen Cancer America

ABOUT THE WHO

The Who are one of the top three greatest rock legacies in music history. Their music provoked explosive change and spanned what many critics declare is rock’s most elastic creative spectrum, with Pete Townshend’s song writing moving between raw, prosaic, conceptual, and expressively literate. Their visionary sense of stagecraft headed by Roger Daltrey’s soaring vocal prowess is topped off by the band’s blistering rhythm section.

Emerging in the mid-1960s as a new and incendiary force in rock n’ roll, their brash style and poignant storytelling garnered them one of music’s most passionate followings, with the legendary foursome blazing a searing new template for rock, punk, and everything after.

Inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990, the band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, placing 27 top-forty singles in the United States and United Kingdom and earning 17 Top Ten albums, including the 1969 ground-breaking rock opera Tommy, 1971’s pummeling Live At Leeds, 1973’s Quadrophenia and 1978’s Who Are You.

The Who debuted in 1964 with a trio of anthems “I Can’t Explain,” “The Kids Are Alright” and “My Generation.” Since then they have delivered to the world hits such as “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Pinball Wizard,” Who Are You,” and,” You Better You Bet.”

Death Valley Girls Announce Summer And Fall Tour Dates With The Distillers!

DEATH VALLEY GIRLS; press photo

DEATH VALLEY GIRLS; press photo

Rock n’ roll has always served as a means to elevate the fringe of society, though it’s accentuated the plights of the outcasts and misfits in different ways throughout the years. In its infancy, rock was a playful rebuttal against segregation and Puritanism. In the ’60s, it became a vehicle for an elevated consciousness. In the years following the Summer of Love and the clampdown on Flower Power, that countercultural spirit adopted the aggravated and occasionally nihilistic edge of bands like The Stooges, Black Sabbath, MC5, and The New York Dolls.

And then as the ’80s approached, popular rock n’ roll turned into a relatively benign celebration of hedonism and decadence, but that contingent of dark mystics from the ’70s who lifted the veil and used music as a means of rallying people to altered planes had left their mark. It was an undercurrent in rock that would never die but would percolate in corners of the underground. Today we can see it manifest in LA’s Death Valley Girls.

The group feels less like a band and more like a travelling caravan. At their core, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel channel Death Valley Girls’ modern spin on Fun House‘s sonic exorcisms, early ZZ Top’s desert-blasted riffage, and Sabbath’s occult menace. Their relentless touring schedule means that the remainder of the group is rounded out by whichever like-minded compatriots can get in the van.

On their third album Darkness Rains bassist Alana Amram, drummer Laura Harris, and a rotating cast of guests like Shannon Lay, The Kid (Laura Kelsey) and members of The Make Up, The Shivas, and Moaning help elevate the band from their rogue beginnings to a communal ritualistic musical force.

On the surface level, Death Valley Girls churn out the hypercharged, in the red, scuzzy rock every generation yearns for, but there is a more subversive force percolating beneath the surface that imbues the band with an exhilarating cosmic energy.

Death Valley Girls’ sophomore album Glow In The Dark was based on the concept that many of us are trying to become more enlightened, and you can tell by the way they ‘glow in the dark.’ Darkness Rains goes a step further, attempting to shift the consciousness of those that have not yet considered how we are all connected and how that relates to the way we view life beyond death. Those that ‘glow’ can use the songs on Darkness Rains as new chants—or they can be used for pure entertainment.

“Songs come from beyond and other worlds, you just have to tune into the right radio wave signal to dial them in,” says Schemel. “Our signal happens to be in a 1970 Dodge Charger Spaceship.”

Album opener “More Dead” is a rousing wake up call, with a hypnotic pentatonic guitar riff and an intoxicating blown-out fuzz-wah solo underscoring Bloomgarden’s consciousness-rattling proclamation that you’re “more dead than alive.” The pace builds with “(One Less Thing) Before I Die”, a minute-and-a-half distillate of Detroit’s classic proto-punk sound. But at track three, Death Valley Girls hit their stride with “Disaster (Is What We’re After)”, a gritty, swaggering rager that takes the most boisterous moments off Exile On Main Street and beefs it up with Zeppelin’s devil’s-note blues. Darkness Rains retains its intoxicating convocations across ten tracks, climaxing on an astral plane with the hypnotic guitar drones and cult-like chants of “TV In Jail On Mars.”

“Learn from the stars and beyond!” Bloomgarden and Schemel respond when asked for a final thought on Death Valley Girls. “Be happy and thankful we got to live together on Earth at the same time! And death is just a shift—stay alive and awake.

“Embrace the darkness and don’t fear the Reaper.”

The Dandy Warhols 25th Anniversary Tour Comes To California This Week!

“The weirdest thing about it being ‎our 25th anniversary is it doesn’t feel like 25 years. Feels like about six. Or five,” muses frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor

Keyboardist/bassist Zia McCabe can’t help but wonder about the complications of building a set list around an entire career as opposed to an individual album.

“Oh man, how are we going to fit something from each album into our set? Don’t worry, we’ll figure it out and it will be legendary. Get ready for a massive concussion of rock and roll that’s been a quarter of a century in the making.”

Whether you dig them gritty or glittery, their recently-released new album Why You So Crazy delivers on all fronts, careening through classically off-kilter psych-pop (‘Be Alright’), high country-fried Americana (‘Motor City Steel’), and gothic piano-propelled rumbas (‘Forever’). You can expect to hear choice cuts from this album, as well as classics from their stellar back catalog of greatness!

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats and Graveyard are teaming up next March for the “Peace Across the Wasteland” co-headlining North American Tour. The tour kicks off Mar. 6 in Philadelphia and runs through Mar. 30 in Toronto. Twin Temple will provide support through the Mar. 16 date in San Francisco, including The Wiltern on Mar. 15.

Revered Swedish heavy rock band Graveyard is touring in support of their critically heralded 5th album,Peace (read the Concert Guide Live review), which is available now from Nuclear Blast. The band’s latest chapter in a celebrated catalog, guides the listener through an ever-changing musical landscape filled with their trademark take on classic rock. From the opening track’s blistering declaration that ‘It Ain’t Over Yet’ to the final note of heart beating bass on the epic and moody rocker ‘Low (I Wouldn’t Mind)’ the band manages to squeeze out every last creative drop of what there is to know, hear and love about the band.

“It’s time to let Peace roll out across the Wasteland. This will be the first time the two bands will tour together and we’re both bringing tons of new music. This tour is going to leave no mind unblown,” says Graveyard of the upcoming run.

The brainchild of singer and guitarist Kevin Starrs, Uncle Acid &The Deadbeats have been making extraordinary music since 2009. After the successful reissue of Vol 1 in 2017, they have now returned in support of their widely acclaimed fifth album Wasteland. The record is 47 minutes of vital, audacious and frequently bewildering heavy psychedelia, and is instantly recognizable as Starrs’ most immersive and evocative body of work yet.

“We’re looking forward to travelling across the wasteland and destroying minds with Graveyard in 2019. This will be our first North American tour in three years, so it feels long overdue. See you down the front!” says Starrs.

Moroccan Lounge New L.A. Venue

moroccan loungeThe principal owners of Downtown-LA’s acclaimed music venue, the Teragram Ballroom, announce their latest addition to the LA live-music scene, The Moroccan Lounge. The new venue will open its doors in the LA Downtown Arts District in the fall of 2017.

The Moroccan Lounge is located at one of the oldest liquor-licensed sites in LA, which has housed many businesses over the years-including a well-known diner, Little Pedro’s, and according to popular rumor, a brothel. Now the storied location has been transformed into The Moroccan Lounge, an intimate live-music venue with unimpeded sight lines, exceptional acoustics and an environment that caters to both artists and audiences.

“It was important for me to open a little brother to the Teragram Ballroom – a fresh, sound-strong venue that supports bands, giving them that first step up to performing in a first rate, state-of-the-art venue,” says co-founder Michael Swier, likening this venue’s raison d’etre to that of his revered New York venue, the Mercury Lounge. “A venue the size and quality of The Moroccan Lounge develops bands with the kind of professional attention and treatment they will come to expect as their careers gain speed and they play the larger, more venerable venues.”

The Moroccan Lounge accommodates approximately 275 people, and offers a large, static stage in an acoustically conditioned music room with adjacent green room, a comfortable lounge with a large bar and a restaurant.

“I feel very fortunate to have found this gem, with its perfect bones for music, in the Arts District,” says Swier. “It’s a vibrant neighborhood, new and familiar at the same time, acreative sense of place.”

Co-founder Joe Baxley, who scouted the location, agrees. “The Downtown Arts District has become a real center of culture and entertainment, a place with a lot of activity. I can’t think of a better location for The Moroccan Lounge,” he says.
Located at 901 East 1th Street, The Moroccan Lounge is just off the 101. It is on the gold line near the Little Tokyo/Arts District Station.

“We were inspired by the building’s existing Moorish style, which kindled memories of Tangier, and the iconic Café Baba, notorious haunt of rock legends,” says project architect and co-founder, Brian Swier, who also designed the Teragram Ballroom, the Bowery Ballroom, the Mercury Lounge, among others. “While rock n’ roll was my primary design mode, visitors can expect unusual details here — some new, some vintage — like unique wall coverings, exposed masonry, and salvaged ephemera.”

Industry-veteran and LA resident, Duncan Smith, is The Moroccan Lounge’s talent buyer. Smith was most recently a talent buyer at LA’s The Resident and prior to that he worked at LA’s Spaceland Presents. Both Scott Simoneaux, talent buyer for the Teragram Ballroom, and Johnny Beach, long time talent buyer for the Bowery Ballroom and partner in the Teragram Ballroom, will assist in the launch and oversight of The Moroccan Lounge’s talent-buying department.
