Grammy-nominated and Gold-selling hard rock heavyweights Killswitch Engage have announced their Spring 2020 North American tour plans. The band, recently recognized by Forbes as “one of modern metal’s most cherished acts” will return to the road to headline clubs and theaters across the U.S. and Canada. The trek kicks off on March 10 in Cleveland and runs through April 12 in Boston. Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s own August Burns Red will serve as main support for all of the dates. Additional acts appearing on the tour will be announced at a later date. All tour dates are below.

Killswitch Engage’s latest album Atonement is out now via Metal Blade Records. All Music described the album as “the best-sounding record in the band’s catalog, bridging modern studio techniques with early-2000s ones,” while Consequence of Sound praised the band for continuing to “deliver brutal compositions that hook listeners in with thrilling musicianship.” Loudwire deemed the record a “high mark in the Killswitch Engage catalog and easily the metalcore icons’ most dynamic release yet.” MetalSucks summed it up best, saying, “There’s a reason Killswitch Engage have survived when many of their peers tripped over their ear gauges and fell by the wayside. They’re just really damn good at what they do,” while Exclaim! enthused that Atonement is full of “material so killer that nobody could ever doubt them.”

ABOUT KILLSWITCH ENGAGE:
Killswitch Engage first shook the structure of heavy music upon climbing out of snowy industrialized Western Massachusetts in 1999. A musical outlier, the band pioneered a union of thrashed-out European guitar pyrotechnics, East Coast hardcore spirit, on-stage hijinks, and enlightened lyricism that set the pace for what the turn-of-the-century deemed heavy. 2002’s Alive Or Just Breathing became avowed as a definitive album, being named among “The Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of the Decade” by Decibel and celebrated by everyone from Metal Hammer to Revolver. Not only did they bust open the floodgates for dozens to follow, but they also garnered two GRAMMY®Award nominations in the category of “Best Metal Performance” in 2005 and 2014, respectively, and gold certifications for The End of Heartache [2004] and As Daylight Dies [2006]. The group landed three consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 with Killswitch Engage [2009], Disarm The Descent [2013], and their career high best bow at #6 with Incarnate [2016]. The latter two releases would also both capture #1 on the Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts. Their total streams have exceeded half-a-billion to date. Along the way, the band has shared stages with some of the biggest acts in the world and have sold out countless headline gigs in six continents across the globe.

2019 represents another turning point. The quintet—Adam Dutkiewicz [lead guitar], Joel Stroetzel [rhythm guitar], Mike D’Antonio [bass], Justin Foley [drums], and Jesse Leach [vocals]—sharpen every side of this signature sound on their eighth full-length and first for Metal Blade, Atonement. Their most critically acclaimed album in at least 15 years, Atonement debuted #2 on the Billboard Top Album chart, #13 on the Billboard Top 200, and once again #1 on both the Top Rock and Hard Rock Album charts. Needless to say, worldwide touring is on the agenda for the rest of 2019 and beyond.

Legendary Mountain Drummer Corky Laing Releases First Solo Album After Decades

Half a century after his first Mountain rehearsals, Corky Laing, the legendary drummer and songwriter, shows no signs of slowing down. On September 27, 2019, Corky released his first studio album in decades, Toledo Sessions, via Prudential Records. The excitement brought on by the new repertoire is reminiscent of the classic Mountain albums, Climbing! and Nantucket Sleighride. Toledo Sessions was written and recorded in Toledo, Ohio, with Mark Mikel and Chris Shutters. Chris is an award-winning blues guitarist and singer while Mark is a studio wizard and multi-instrumentalist who recently contributed to the newest Alan Parsons album. The album was also executive produced by renown touring/studio drummer Jason Hartless and mixed at the legendary Pearl Sound Studios in Canton, MI, by Chuck Alkazian as well as Jason Hartless.

“With the support of Prudential Music Group, I was able to make a record of a lifetime. The old-school approach chosen felt fresh and new, because the magic of music never gets old. Recording and mixing in analog made this repertoire feel natural and genuine. You can touch and feel the sound. Who would have ever dreamed that at this point in my life I would have the opportunity to create, collaborate on, and record such a diverse piece of repertoire and have it available on vinyl?

“After fifty years at the heart of the music industry, it is nothing short of a miracle that as a result of playing and recording with the brilliance of my band, I feel as enthusiastic about The Toledo Sessions as I did about Mountain’s Climbing! and Nantucket Sleighride almost half a century ago. I have been very lucky in my career to work with many of the greats. I must say that Mark Mikel and Chris Shutters are two of the most creative and talented musicians I have ever had the privilege and honor to perform and record with. This particular repertoire feels & sounds like a place I’ve always dreamed of visiting. After 50 years of recording, I feel like I have finally arrived,” says Corky Laing.

Renown Touring/Studio Drummer and Managing Partner of Prudential Music Group, Jason Hartless states, “After Corky being my drum mentor when I was starting my career off, it is a real full circle moment for me to be executive producer on this project. As a long time Mountain fan, I was really blown away when I heard the first rough mixes and knew this record needed to be heard by all classic rock fans.”

Devon Allman Launches Create Records With Jackson Stokes Debut

Jackson Stokes

Jackson Stokes

Devon Allman has announced the official launch of Create Records, with first signed artist, Jackson Stokes. Stokes will release his self-titled debut record on October 25th. Shortly thereafter Stokes will join The Allman Betts Band on tour as official support. Today, Stokes has released a teaser of his first track from the forthcoming album “Time is Now” – which will officially be released this coming Friday, Sept 27.

For guitarist and singer-songwriter Jackson Stokes, great musicians make great neighbors. Even as a youth weaned on classic rock- his first concert was Lynyrd Skynyrd- Stokes was unaware that living across the street from his St. Louis home was guitarist and singer-songwriter Devon Allman. Allman’s family tree is impressive as the son of Gregg Allman and nephew of Duane Allman of Allman Brothers Band fame. Yet, Stokes knew little of the legendary group. Encouraged by his father, and holding his guitar, the 11-year-old Stokes knocked on Allman’s door.

Allman, two decades his elder, heard something special in the young Stokes and encouraged him to continue learning and growing as a musician. Stokes dutifully attended Allman’s Honeytribe rehearsals, sitting quietly in the corner while the group worked up its repertoire. At 14, Stokes had developed into a prodigious firebrand with a passion for the blues, teaming with another area wunderkind, Marquise Knox, and performing his first professional gigs.

By 18, his experience playing in high school garage bands, and with an All-State school jazz band, expanded his rock-and-roll palette. He attended Drury University in Springfield, earning a degree in music therapy, while maintaining a friendship with Allman, who encouraged Stokes to further sharpen his songwriting skill. In Memphis in 2012, Allman produced a five-song EP, Witness, from the Stokes-led band, Delta Sol Revival.

DSR toured regionally until 2016 when Stokes and Allman began discussing recording his solo debut. The pair returned to Memphis for the initial sessions, as Allman invited Stokes to join the Devon Allman Band for 2017, and subsequently the Devon Allman Project for a world tour in 2018. On days-off from the road, Stokes continued work on his album, organically building the full-length.

In May of 2019, Stokes put the finishing touches on a striking inaugural effort. Produced by Allman, it is a lean and focused set of rock-and-soul, including an ambitious Talking Heads cover, and a depth of original material ranging in style and subjects. From the Memphis stroll of the opening “Can’t Getcha Out,” through the reflective acoustic closer, “Take Me Home,” the debut encompasses Stokes’ wide swath of influences and tastes. There’s the ‘60s R&B update that morphs into modern rock on “Slave,” the staggering punches of overdriven guitar on “Time is Now,” and the midnight seduction of “Contents Under Pressure.” A flourish of pleading guitars finishes the slowly climbing blues-rock centerpiece, “You and Your Partner,” while David Byrne meets Southern funky on “Life in Wartime.” As well, Stokes welcomes the sunny-days slide guitar of The Allman Betts Band’s Johnny Stachela to brighten the Southern sway of “Sins Are Forgiven,” complementing that with the chunky Saturday night blues of “Whiskey.”

Naturally, the nine-song record offers plenty of the fiery guitar that has been the calling card of Stokes’ career for this first decade, showcasing the stellar reputation he’s earned sharing the stage with such icons as Robert Cray, The Wailers, and Robert Randolph, as well as Warren Haynes, Lukas Nelson, and Marcus King. Yet, it’s a conspicuous emphasis on Stokes’ escalating songcraft that also shines as brightly on this initial release.

“I really do enjoy playing guitar, but I also love songwriting. I love the whole process,” says Stokes. “I think this album is very representative of a natural maturation, of how I’ve been viewing things on my journey. And, hopefully, it’s a journey that’s just beginning.”

“This is definitely going to be a tour to remember,” says John 5. “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there. Don’t miss it!”

John 5 kicked off 2019 with the debut video clip from Invasion, the campy animated “Zoinks!”, followed by three equally eccentric videos for “Midnight Mass,” “I Am John 5” and “Crank It – Living with Ghosts.” Then, a new video for the track “I Want It All” was unveiled along with the release of the album last week.

Invasion was produced and mixed by Barry Pointer (Richie Sambora, Joe Perry, Steve Vai, Jackson Browne).

Trashcan Sinatras: One Night, Two Albums

Spanning North America for six weeks in the Fall, Trashcan Sinatras will play both A Happy Pocket and Weightlifting (celebrating its 15-year anniversary) in their entirety, stopping at The Coach House Oct. 4. In 2019, the band began the creative process for a new album, while its acoustic lineup reprised the “One Night, Two Albums” tour concept.

Trashcan Sinatras were formed in 1987 in the coastal town of Irvine, Scotland, by John Douglas, Paul Livingston, David Hughes, Stephen Douglas and Francis Reader. Quickly signed to esteemed British indie label Go! Discs, the group used its label advance to set up their own recording studio, Shabby Road, in nearby Kilmarnock, where they settled in to create three critically acclaimed albums.

The first of these, Cake, was released in the summer of 1990 and featured debut single “Obscurity Knocks” and its follow-up “Only Tongue Can Tell”, both of which became alternative radio hits in the USA, and introduced the group to what has become a loving and loyal fan base around the world. Their beloved second album, I’ve Seen Everything, came along in 1993, preceded by the lauded single “Hayfever.” The group’s next album, 1996’s self-produced A Happy Pocket, featured four singles, including the band’s much-loved cover of “To Sir, With Love”.

After leaving Go! Discs in 1998, the group kept a low profile until the release of their fourth album, Weightlifting, in the autumn of 2004. Extensive touring in support of that album followed, with shows in the UK, Europe, USA, Japan and Australia. In winter 2007/2008, they record a fifth studio album, In the Music, at Stratosphere Sound in Manhattan and on Martha’s Vineyard. The group celebrated the album’s release in 2009 with concerts and promotional appearances over the next two years in the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom. It was during the In the Music tours that the band began playing “house parties” for fans, which have since become a staple of their touring schedule.

In early 2015, the group set up camp with producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Justin Townes Earle, First Aid Kit, Rilo Kiley) at his ARC Studios in Omaha, Nebraska to record their sixth LP.

Released in April 2016, the album, Wild Pendulum, received a warm welcome from music critics and fans. The A.V. Club said, “Wild Pendulum is lovingly crafted, with layers in all the right places,” while AllMusic exclaimed the album is “quite likely the best sophisticated guitar pop album anyone is likely to hear in 2016.” The band returned to the road for the first time in five years, supporting the release with concerts in the United States, Scotland, England, Ireland and Japan.

Paul, John and Francis hit the road as a three-piece unit in September 2017 for a six-week acoustic tour of North America, playing nearly all of the 100+ songs they had written together over the last 30 years. The tour included sold-out shows in New York City and Los Angeles, amongst others, and was capped off with a second sell-out in Los Angeles, where the group filmed the show for a live CD/DVD, All Night In America (released in October 2018).

Trashcan Sinatras toured again in 2018, in both their acoustic and full-band configurations. A 30 date North American acoustic “One Night, Two Albums” tour, where they played Cake and I’ve Seen Everything in their entirety, was followed by a full band supporting slot in the UK with Del Amitri, as well as their own headline shows in the UK and elsewhere.

The Experience Hendrix Tour, the acclaimed multi-artist celebration of Jimi Hendrix’s musical genius is returning in October with a trek down the West Coast featuring a date at City National Grove of Anaheim on Oct 9.

What began as a single show tribute at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 has blossomed into a full-fledged concert experience that has thrilled countless fans across the U.S. The tour, which the Chicago Tribune called “a testament to the legacy of the iconic guitarist,” presents a host of great artists collaborating and interpreting Hendrix’s legendary repertoire as part of a dynamic, non-stop three-hour concert experience.

The Experience Hendrix Tour offers fans a rare opportunity to see critically lauded musicians performing timeless Jimi Hendrix classics such as “Purple Haze,” “Foxey Lady,” “Voodoo Child” and “Little Wing” in a unique setting. This latest edition of the tour will feature guitar wizard Joe Satriani, as well as Taj Mahal, Dweezil Zappa, Jonny Lang and Eric Johnson. Mainstays Billy Cox, Slide Brothers and Doyle Bramhall II will also be on board for the duration.

Joe Satriani, 15-time Grammy Award nominee, who recently came off the eastern leg of the Experience Hendrix Tour, will be back for the Oct. 1 kickoff in Jimi’s hometown of Seattle. Notable for being the biggest-selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time, Satriani came to the forefront with the release of his 1987 solo album Surfing with the Alien. He has worked with Mick Jagger, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult and the fabled Spinal Tap and is a member of rock super group Chickenfoot. In keeping with the spirit of the Experience Hendrix Tour, Satriani has formed an all-star trio especially for the occasion, calling upon bassist and vocalist dUg Pinnick from King’s X, and prolific sideman Kenny Aronoff on drums to serve as his rhythm section.

“The Experience Hendrix Tours are always so much fun,” Satriani told Billboard. “The camaraderie between all the musicians on the show is magical. I’m so excited to play some deep Hendrix tracks in a power trio setting with dUg Pinnick and Kenny Aronoff!”

Like Buddy Guy, singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Taj Mahal knew Jimi Hendrix personally. Virtually the same age, the two had contemporaneous careers that similarly navigated the blues world and the much larger rock world. Taj Mahal has been a staple of past Experience Hendrix Tours, and has the utmost admiration for his old friend. “He [Jimi] moved the blues – the language of the music – into the future.”

Billy Cox, bassist for both Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has been the backbone of the tour since its inception, providing a spiritual connection between the past and present. Rounding out the lineup are drummer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Chris Layton of Steve Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, as well as Mato Nanji of Indigenous, Henri Brown and bassist Kevin McCormick.

“There’s something so special about playing Seattle. Author Thomas Wolfe wrote, ‘You can’t go home again,’ but that’s definitely not the case with Jimi,” said his sister Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. “His music is like a beacon that always brings him back to Seattle, where it all began. Celebrating his legacy here brings it full circle. Even the musicians play stronger, as if they’re channeling the vibe of Jimi. We love Seattle, it’s home . . . it’s family.”

Critics have been gushing about the Experience Hendrix Tour since its inception. “Hendrix’s classic songs came one after the next and the electric licks were delivered by a who’s who of modern guitar greats,” noted Loudwire, which went on to call it “the guitar tour of the year.”

“At the very end of the night, all the participants came back out for a final bow,” Consequence of Sound observed this past March. “And one thing you couldn’t help but realize by this point – the music of Jimi Hendrix will seemingly live on forever and continue to inspire future generations.”

The 2019 Experience Hendrix Tour is sponsored by Fender Musical Instruments, the renowned manufacturer of Jimi’s iconic Stratocaster guitars, along with Dunlop, Hal Leonard, and Axe Heaven.

Atreyu will celebrate 20 years of rock with an anniversary tour this fall. The tour features support from Whitechapel, He Is Legend, Tempting Fate, and Santa Cruz. The tour kicks off on October 19 in Las Vegas and runs through November 20 in Ventura, California. All dates are below.

“This year has been a huge one for Atreyu,” said drummer Brandon Saller. “Not only because of the beautiful support we have received for In Our Wake but also because this is our 20-year anniversary as a band. What better way to celebrate than with the reason we are all here…YOU. So here’s how it goes. 20 years. 20 songs. Chosen by YOU…the fans. This will be the longest Atreyu set ever and also the first time the fans get to choose. Let’s do this.”

“We are very blessed to be celebrating our 20th anniversary this year,’ singer Alex Varkatzas concours. “It’s been a long, rewarding road and we are not slowing down anytime soon. We would like the help of our friends and supporters in picking the set they will see on this upcoming coming run with Whitechapel. We owe so much to the wonderful people who support and connect with us. We are very excited for these shows.”

The deluxe version of Atreyu’s latest album In Our Wake is out now.

Karen O & Danger Mouse will play a very special live show Friday, September 6 at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, their only live engagement in support of their collaborative album, Lux Prima, released earlier this year on BMG.

Lux Prima, the first collaboration from the iconic Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman and the legendary musician-producer, was released in March to widespread critical acclaim. In celebration of the album, Karen O & Danger Mouse presented a companion piece, the groundbreaking immersive installation “An Encounter with Lux Prima” in April with a completely sold out run at Los Angeles’ Marciano Art Foundation.

In addition to four albums with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and a solo album, Crush Songs, Grammy-nominated O has contributed to soundtracks for Where The Wild Things Are and Her, for which she was nominated for an Oscar. Grammy-winning artist Danger Mouse’s projects include Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells and Danger Doom as well as work with Adele, The Black Keys, Gorillaz, A$AP Rocky and beyond.

Lux Prima continues to receive widespread critical praise…

“An album of sprawling, soulful, cinematic psych rock filled with astral bass lines, gauzy strings and Karen O-isms like ‘You’re not coming for me/I’m coming for you.’…The nine tracks on Lux Prima unspool grandly, from the ominous lullaby ‘Ministry’ to the stomping girl-group squall of ‘Woman’ to the compact psych-funk groove of ‘Leopard’s Tongue.’”—The New York Times

“Lux Prima ventures fully out of this stratosphere…a cinematic journey through the outer reaches of the cosmos and the inner reaches of the artists themselves.”—GQ

“Lux Prima is a gloriously wide-screen album, sweeping and epic,
with a lush, multi-layered sound”—Variety

“Karen O & Danger Mouse bring out best in each other”—Associated Press
